After our hectic day in Amsterdam yesterday we were at the city-estate "the Kemphaan" in Almere at a little spring-fair and I saw for the first time a sheep been shaved so close. It looks not so comfortable for the poor one, but she was pretty calm and lost a lot of warm hair.
Ha !! I have seen this many time in my younger days.. it looks awful but in fact the sheep like it , I think... they lose a heavy burden ...

It is also a backbreaking job for the shearer. Great capture of the event.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI watched someone doing this one time. Nice pictures!
BeantwoordenVerwijderendiana b,
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThanks for the right word "shearer", in dutch we use the same word for man shaving and sheep.
anni,
I could see the sheep liked it, she was very calm afterwards.
I have never seen this done and the first two photos scared me for a moment. I do love the wool sweaters and no one has to "give their all" to produce them... Great story
