Diane Arbus

In the photography Museum Foam in Amsterdam I saw a great exhibition about american photographer Diane Arbus (1923-1971). The black-and-white photos show deviant and marginal people as dwarfs, giants, transgender people, nudists etc. Diane believed that a camera could be "a little bit cold", "a little bit harsh", but its scrutiny revealed the truth; the difference between what people wanted others to see and what they did really see-the flaws. Her work has always provoked controversy. She committed suicide in 1971.
