"Het Nijenhuis" Castle is situated between two villages Heino and Wijhe in the Province Overijssel. It dates from 1382 and the nobility lived here for many centuries. After 1934 it was sold and nobody lived here anymore and the building declined. The collector Dirk Hannema started a restoration of the castle and turned it into a museum for his own art collection. He lived here from 1958 until his death in 1984. Since 2004 it is accessesible for public and has many changing exhibitions.
It is situated in a beautiful area with a garden around full of art.
The weather was beautiful, but nature is still a bit to late, because of the cold we had, no leaves or flowers can be seen.
A view at the sculpture garden.
Tomorrow I'll show you more of the inside of the castle and the sculptures.
At hubby sccollections blog you can see more pictures.

I pick the castle reflecting in the water as my favorite shot.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThat looks like a FANTASTIC place! I cannot imagine living in a castle...wouldn't mind trying it, tho.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenSuch old world beauty! Happy that it was preserved and found a new use
BeantwoordenVerwijderenYou have such a rich culture and visible buildings from ages ago. The New World is lacking all of this... Let's hope that in the Old World they will always try hard for restoring and maintaining this for future generations! Thanks for sharing with us.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenHugs,
Mariette

You are very fortunate that private collectors share their collections with the public.
