Stained Glass

What I liked very much in the Maritime Museum were these stained glass windows. They hail from the office of shipping firm Vinke and show their period of activities.

This one shows their first building where the firm had their office at the Gelderse kade (quay)  in Amsterdam and their first ship.

And here you see burning and sinking ships in the East Sea during World War II.
The windows date from 1950.

  1. I like these ones. They are not the usual stained glass windows I see in church.

  2. These are brilliant Marianne and tragic at the same time. I remember my Mom telling me how many ships sunk in Halifax Harbour, running supplies and ammo and rescuing young soldiers stranded on sinking ships. Halifax is our busiest seaport. These stained glass windows are indeed beautiful and tell a story. Wonderfully coloured.

  3. Stained glass is a whole different art in itself, one that I think would be very difficult to do. I agree with Andy.

  5. Dat is iets wat je niet vaak ziet, sierglas in niet religieuze onderwerpen.
