Dresses (3)

The third and last dress is of Queen Beatrix who was inaugurated at April 30, 1980. She wore a silk dress which was painted in the colour of the ermine of the coat she had to wear. The dress had special sleeves, inspired by a painting of the English Queen Anna Boleyn. As Beatrix had to raise her arm to swear, she wanted the sleeve to be kept in place and not sliding along her arm.

In fact she had two sleeves, the inner was with folds quilted together and kept perfect in place as you can see here. The dress was made by her personal designer Theresia Vreugdenhil, who made all her official clothes.

And here an offical portrait of Queen Beatrix with the ermine coat.

  1. it's amazing how the styles have changed. I like the design of her sleeve....since she was not eighteen like her grandmother!

  3. I think we do not realize the great work and preparation to have all this clothing of the Royals be so perfect.I wouldn't even have thought about the design of the sleeve and now reading this, I must say any time I have seen a Royal wave, the sleeve stayed in place. Thank you - for these very informative posts and photos. I am sure a lot of work was put into research and photos.

  5. Wat leuk om al die jurken te zien, ook mooie herinneringen. Wat was onze Maxima toch prachtig hè, alles wat ze die dag aanhad . Ik vond de jurk van de avond met de bloemetjes en die schitterende hals het mooist.
