Bergen

On our way to the city of Bergen we came by more waterfalls but this was a special one, you could walk behind.

To see this.

We visited the house Troldhaugen  where the composer Edward Grieg lived with his wife Nina until 1907. His most famous work was the "Peer Gynt suite".

The house was situated at a magnificent cape with this view.

The city of Bergen seen from above where we went up with a little cable tramway, the Floybanen.

Bergen has a very old center with wooden houses which date from the Hanseatic League in 1300. It is Unesco World Heritage.

It was amazing to walk in such an old city with very narrow streets.

Here a view at the old city.

There were more wonderful buildings like this former stock exchange now turned into a restaurant.

I liked Bergen with the colourful houses.
Well this holiday has come to an end, hope you enjoyed it as much as I did, but as I read the comments I am sure you did.

  3. Very cool indeed to walk behind the falls and great photos. I love the colourful houses - most inviting and the views of the old city and narrow streets look most inviting - this is indeed a place I would add to my bucket list. Wonderful posting on your trip - most enjoyed.

  4. A wonderful series of photos! The waterfall looks very forceful. Grieg's house certainly is unique (and lovely)! Particularly liked the view of the town seen from afar.

  6. The waterfall trail looks like one in Yosemite. Now I would have been all giddy with excitement to be in the very same house that Edward Grieg composed his music. What a treat.

  7. Dearest Marianne,
Lovely photos and I like Grieg's home especially. Looks very much like the Victorian homes here in the South of the USA.
Imagine back in the 14th or 15th Century if they had a fire in one of those wooden houses... The flames would go wild from one end of the narrow street to the other.
So glad most got preserved and are now listed as an Unesco World Heritage site!
Thanks for sharing with us your lovely vacation.
    Hugs,
    Mariette
