Berlin Wall

I am back again from  Germany with amongst others a visit to the city of Berlin. This is a remnant of the Berlin Wall which devided the east and the west part of the city. All kind of artists have painted the concrete walls now with beautiful murals.

Here you can see the remains of the wall that went down in 1989.
See for more Monday Murals here

  1. So happy that you added this to Monday Murals because it is an important part of world history. I recall seeing it before the wall was torn down but it was not as colorful then. Hope you had a marvelous time in Berlin; it is quite a city!!

  2. Welcome back Marianne, I think art is a much better use for the remains of the wall than the original oui!

  4. There are some beautiful murals there. I was there just before much of the wall came down. Living in England gave me the opportunity to travel a lot and whenever I was in Germany I would stand at "Check Point Charlie" and gaze over to the East. That was very sad and then very happy to see it end. Lovely photos.

  6. I like the murals but there is still an ugliness to the wall and it's history.

  8. Welcome Back! Berlin is on my wish list, so I am hoping that you will share even more pictures.Cool that it is now a canvas (so to speak) for artist, instead of the barrier it once was!

  9. Dearest Marianne,
Never I will forget that moment when the Berlin Wall came down as I was driving home from The Netherlands and Germany (work) to Italy and I listened to the radio...
Great reminder in a nice way with such art.
    Hugs,
    Mariette

  10. Oh, how well I remember the Berlin Wall and the pictures of the way people lived on the other side. It was a scary period of history...and it is scary once again. Thanks for sharing the photos. I loved looking at them. The artists have tried to make something pretty out of what was such a horrible thing.

  12. This is an incredible sight. Expressive freedom on the cold war symbol of oppression. Thanks for contributing to this week's Monday Mural.
