A reflection of a piece of art in the water of the Ringdijk (dike) in Amsterdam. I couldn't find any information about the art but it is interesting to see a dike in Amsterdam.
Within the territory of the municipality of Amsterdam several polders were surrounded by a ring dike. A stil intact ring dike is around Watergraafsmeer an area in the East part of Amsterdam. At the right you can see a path up to the dike.
This dike surrounds the lowermost part of Amsterdam and here a view down at this old house at the lower side behind the dike.
And this is the higher part of this area with houses opposite.
Linking to Weekend Reflections
What with sea levels rising, I'm beginning to see cities here one our east coast studying Amsterdam's efforts to stem the tide.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI like the ducks swimming around with the art along the dike, taking it in stride. Pretty reflections.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenDat wist ik niet van de Ringdijk. Mooi voorbeeld van water management.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenSuper reflections of the artwork Marianne and interesting info on the pathway following the dike..
BeantwoordenVerwijderenLove the pathway and photos surrounding and below the dyke - Great photo in the reflection - love the trees.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThere are so many in Amsterdam. Your pictures are beautiful ! My son married a Dutch girl and they live in Iijburg.
BeantwoordenVerwijderen45 years ago we had 25° on the 11th October !
Excellent job on the reflections, and the houses and the pathway are intriguing.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenA strange landscape to see for this California boy.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenStunning reflection.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI love your dikes and channels.
Beautiful shots. My father would know this area, I believe.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenPretty scenic shots, it is a beautiful city.. Happy weekend!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenAll I know is that Holland is a complicated system of dikes. I don't know how they operate. It's a very beautiful area.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenNot only interesting . Beautiful too , great place for a stroll !
BeantwoordenVerwijderenLeuk, zo'n tour door Amsterdam :)
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThe piece of art in the middle of the water has strange colors... It put some life in the pic ! Nice serie.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThe Dutch are certainly experts at keeping the sea at bay.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenIk heb er nooit bij stilgestaan dat er dijken zijn in de stad.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenGroetjes,
Filip
I would love to walk there! Great reflections!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenLovely reflections! I'm not sure I ever thought about what a dike would look like. Very interesting pictures.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenDearest Marianne,
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThe Dutch are masters in having reclaimed so much land and working with dikes and windmills to keep it dry. Their is a saying that God created the world but the Dutch created Holland!
So true and literally they reclaimed North and South Holland from the Sea.
Hugs and happy weekend.
Mariette
I'd like to learn more about dikes since they are unfamiliar to me in this part of the world, although some of our cities could benefit from the technology.
