Lovelocks

No bridge in Europe is safe for these stupid padlocks pinned by love couples. Every piece of iron grit  is used for this action only because of a movie in which a love couple hang their padlock on a bridge in Paris and threw the key in the river Seine,  symbolizing their eternal love. Here some couples have discovered a new object in Amsterdam after they almost destroyed a draw-bridge.

I hope our bridge will not end like the "Pont des Arts" in Paris which collapsed partly  with this ballast. (foto from internet)

  1. We need to start a new fad, b, something a little more eco-friendly. Let's see, what might that be . . . ?

  2. WOW, that's a lot of weight. Looks kinda neat, but very dangerous with all the extra weight on the bridge. Good Find.

  3. We saw these for the first time in Austria, and had not seen them before. I an't believe the one from Pont Des Arts....just a little overboard. I wonder how many couples would like to get their key back and unlock the padlock?

  6. What Malyss said, just the way I was going to go with this. I bet the lock companies just love that movie. And then what Linda Kay wrote. I'd keep the spare key in my pocket. You just never know.

  7. It is something that's become incredibly stupid, with a total disregard for public property and aesthetics.

  10. Dearest Marianne,
What a stupid thing to do and totally against common sense eco-friendly living!
    Hugs and happy weekend.

  11. There certainly has been enough publicity about this narcissistic practice so that any moronic "lover" should know that this is harmful to the bridges.

  12. I propose picking-up cigarette butts and other litter off the streets as a sign of love for all.
I do not believe sweeping the street to get rid of debris is against the law either, but I am no lawyer.

    Peace :)

  13. Wow! That is crazy Marianne.. and really when you think of it it's not a very unique way of demonstrating your love, not when thousands of others are doing exactly the same oui :)

  14. I hate this tradition. I know they are trying to get it banned and I hope it works out. I get sad when summer ends :(

  15. When I first saw it in Paris, I though, how romantic. But now it is just a nuisance.
