Waiting for a tram on a tramstop in Amsterdam, I noticed this "poem" in front of me. As you can see the innercity is still a mess because of the everlasting construction of a new metro line and that is what this text is about. I shall try to translate it in english
.
Metro
When the city is a body,
the houses-skin and hair-their bones,
sticking in the earth, we as blood corpuscles,
pale, flowing through her veins
through giant gaping mouths
entering and surfacing again, then
that body had a heart problem
and we laid a bypass to it.
It is a nice kind of excuse for all the mess and discomfort to the citizens and visitors of Amsterdam I think. Linking to signs, signs
Oh that is funny! Could they possible be putting the metro under ground. Surely not.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenReminds me of the many years businesses in our area struggled while the new Metro line was being constructed.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenDisruption is inevitable but it's nice when it is acknowledged in a slightly different way.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenSomeone certainly has a sense of humor in the city or on the construction crew. We had our road torn up in front of the subdivision for over a year, and they kept switching the barricades to confuse everyone. There were some minor wrecks, but thankfully nothing too serious.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI rode a tram in Krakow and it is the first one I have ever ridden. We don't have them here where I live.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenAnd in a short time after it is completed it will be outdated and they start all over?
BeantwoordenVerwijderenNice poem.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenWe also has a subway under construction, and now it is already in trouble before it's ready.
Mooi hoor. Ik vind het altijd erg leuk om dit soort dingen te ontdekken, de poezie ligt op straat! :)
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThat is a very dramatic explanation for a mess! I'm sure it will look nice when all finished.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenIt's good to see some poetry among the big mess..
BeantwoordenVerwijderenWell, all I see is the beauty of Amsterdam! Thanks to HGTV and its House Hunters International, I have been in love with Amsterdam since the first time I viewed it. If only...
BeantwoordenVerwijderenEvery street corner should have some poetry! Your banner photo is beautiful. Tom The Backroads Traveller
BeantwoordenVerwijderenWell, that's thoughtful of them to write something meaningful about the construction.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenWe have disruption here with a tunnel being put through the core for the overall LRT line. This shot reminds me of some of the work being done.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenWe could use some poetry around all the construction sites here!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI agree with Pat, we have so much construction.. but no poetry :)
BeantwoordenVerwijderenOh, thank you for translating this!! I also took a photo. Actually, my Dutch wasn't so bad as I got most of it, but wasn't confident in my translating.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenYou are so fortunate to have so many language skills.
