King William

A statue of King William II (1792-1849), Prince of Orange-Nassau in The Hague. From 1840 until his death in 1849 he was King of the Netherlands and Grand-Duke of Luxembourg and Duke of Limburg. He was married with Anna Paulowna, a daughter of Tsar Paul I of Russia.

He has got some pins in his head to avoid pigeons to land on him and make it dirty.

The  statue was obviously inspired by this painting of William II

    Beautiful statue. I guess one would never notice the pins. On my ipad I can zoom in...I also see them on his arm and even on the horse...clever.I wonder if it works?

    That's quite a stature, and the birds are always a problem for these. I wonder if his marriage was arranged, or if he was in love with Anna?

      Those marriages were always arranged at that time. It had always to do with political interests. Sometimes their was love but mostly not

    Some of the kings were pretty active in making alliances with others so that they had more power. this guy looks like he was very aggressive.

    It's an excellent sculpture Marianne, but the bird repellers look a little like King William was an alien with antenna :)
