Railway Station

At the Central railway station in Almere Stad (City). The station dates from 1987 and is designed by Peter Kilsdonk. It was built as main station for the new forensic city Almere along the Flevo railway line.

The design is rather spectacular but for a city built in an always  windy polder it is a cold place to wait for a train. At the right are many open spaces where the winds blows into your face.

  2. I. Like the bright colors......Altough I really don't like wind, especially when it is cold.

  4. I too like the colours and I also like the butterfly's on the side. I think there is lots of support in this structure and kinda neat looking too.

  7. Often architects don't take into consideration the weather Marianne but it certainly looks good.

  8. The mural kind of breaks up all those harsh lines of the building. A nice touch.

  9. Yes, the people look very cold. sometimes too much emphasis is put on the structure and other elements like weather are ignored.

  10. I can well imagine that it is very cold in the winter, but the girder structure is very attractive.

  12. Dearest Marianne,
One often wonders if it really needed to be open... It would no doubt make quite a difference in feeling more comfortable while standing still and waiting. Not being in motion feels a lot colder!
    Hugs,

  13. It has an amazing pattern structure. Its a pity it isn't practical for the weather.
