Rotterdam

To walk with a born Rotterdam relative in the city, is nice to explore unknown neighbourhoods. This used to be a neglected area near the Central Station. In 2011 the municipality of Rotterdam organized the first city initiative. Rotterdam people were called to submit projects which would improve the quality of life in the city.

The plan for the "Luchtsingel" (a boulevard in the air) won 50% of the votes. It had to attract new developments and it worked.

It is a shame that the graffiti "artists" couldn't leave this project as it was meant to be.

People and companies were able to buy a piece of wood with their name on to sponsor the realization of the project.

Here a look at the wooden boulevard from the outside.

  4. A fascinating design- though you do wish the taggers would refrain from that.

  6. It's too bad the graffiti artists couldn't respect the original artist's idea and leave it alone. I like the concept of a "boulevard in the air".
