Old and new.

The Old Church of yesterday's post from the outside and the exhibition of the modern art in it.
I have mixed feelings about  the exhibitions in old churches. I like the art but not the location. To keep the buildings in repair many old churches have to make money and let the building to others. But I like to see it as it is without things in it attracting my attention.
On the other hand when people come for the exhibitions they also see the beauty of the building.(I hope)

  1. The exterior of this magnificent church is as beautiful as the inside... I agree with you that it is a challenge to preserve this exquisitely built place of worship... Finding the resources to do so often leave few options... All in all, this is not too bad as choices are made.

  5. CaT, I don't know what it is. It was made by a student of the "Rietveld academie". There were many weird objects, I couldn't publish on my blog. These were the most decent ones.

  6. It is a happy trade off. As you say, the people coming to see the art also get to see the beauty of the church.

So many churches in this country have fallen victim to hard times and have closed or sold out -- one I know of is now a place for Bingo parties.

  7. Beautiful. I can't imagine being inside something that old. We here in the States are just babies!

  8. wow, indecent sculptures in the church? thats not decent....
otherwise, i am not that much against using a church but for what it was built for. for example, the church in Maastricht that they turned into a bookstore is really pretty that way, and i think many more people in this way see a church from the inside than otherwise would have happened...

  9. yes, you are right...!
but some modern "art" anyways is really really weird and i am then always wondering why it is in a museum (or displayed anywhere else) as art since it is obvious just... rubbish.. :)
