Behind this gate used to house the Colonial Recruitment Depot. The city Harderwijk was from 1814 to 1919 the main recruitment depot for the East Indies Army, later the Royal Netherlands East Indies Army. The depot was closed in 1909. This gate was offered in 1854 by the municipality of Harderwijk and some residents.
