At the new waterfront in Harderwijk a beautiful piece of art was realized by dutch artist "Marte Roling". It is called the "Hanseatic seamark" and is a little boat on the waves. Harderwijk was a member of the "Hanseatic League" so it is very appropriate.
It is placed on a huge pole and is a real seamark.
A little further on another sculpture was placed in the water, a crashing plane.
It is a remembrance to WWII when between 1941 and 1945 117 crew members of the allied airforces lost their lives close to Harderwijk into the IJssel lake.

WOW - that really is high up, eh. Very interesting and the boat looks like copper? Very significant remembrance to the crew members that lost their lives. Truly significant.

BeantwoordenVerwijderenAmazing.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenHet kunstwerk is in elk geval bestand tegen hoog water.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI'm glad that you explained the crashed airplane sculpture because initially I thought it to be somewhat bizarre. A tragedy to be honored.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenBoth are neat. I like the plane one best.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenBoth wonderful sculptures Marianne, j'adore the ship in the waves on top of the pole it's fantastic.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThe plane sculpture is quite poignant.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenIt's wonderful! Such a nice memorial.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI love the sculpture of the waves and the boat, but not so crazy about the reminder of the plane into the water. Great shots, however, Marianne.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenGreat to see art out and about. Tom The Backroads Traveller
BeantwoordenVerwijderenSobering...
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI like the sculpture a lot.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenMy SIGNS, SIGNS
Both wonderful memorials in their own way!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenVery nice artwork. The blue and gold look pretty in the sunlight! The crashing plane is a little sad.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI really like the first photo. It has lots of motion and the boat really seems to be rocking..
BeantwoordenVerwijderenDearest Marianne,
BeantwoordenVerwijderenTwo very dramatic sculptures with a lot of meaning. The rough waves that also drowned so many sea men and fishers over the ages. Also those shot at airplanes that got directed towards the Ijsselmeer and crashed there.
Hugs,
Mariette
so love that sculpture
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThe crashing sea plane is quite poignant at this time. it almost takes your breath away.
