Wooden Shoe

At Dam square in Amsterdam a shop for traditional Dutch souvenirs. Many tourists take place in the shoe and make a photo of each other. Unfortunately there was nobody sitting in only this sad guy waiting for?

Woody Woodpecker

This Great Spotted Woodpecker visits our garden so now and than. This weekend he came for a reason, he had something special in mind, he was going to make a great artist expression. He chose a hazel nut tree and started to tap the bark very heavy, we saw the fragments breaking and falling on the ground. After rather a while he was ready

and look what Woody has made, he is a real tree artist!

Sunday Bridges, Deventer

The Wilhelmina bridge in Deventer, named after Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands over the river IJssel. It was built between 1939 and 1943, but blown up by the German occupying army in April 1945. After the liberation it was rebuilt in 1948.
The bridge is world famous for the film "A bridge to far" which had to replace the Arnhem Rhine bridge, that could do no service for filming because of the nearby post-war buildings.

I was in Bollywood for an evening with the musical "Bollywood the show". With a retrospective of 80 years Indian filmhistory I saw a spectacluar show with music and dance from the famous "Bollywood movies".

My sweet husband came to pick me up and while waiting for me he made this photo of the theater in Almere.

Decorations

Spring is in the air, this garden-shop has put his decorations outside. A cat, a dog. a cow, a pig? I shouldn't know why I should look at it in my garden. I prefer to see Pimmie walking there.

Graffiti

I am not always so pleased with graffiti, but this one in Amsterdam is colorful and not on the building itself.

The Weigh house Amsterdam

The "Oude Waag" in Amsterdam dates from 1488 and was origininally one of the city gates, the Sint Anthonie gate. When the city wall disappeared, the New Market was created around it and the weighing scales for the market were placed in the former gate. Today the building houses the Waag Society, an ICT research foundation working in the social and cultural domain, and there is a cafe/restaurant on the ground flour. My photo's are made two weeks ago.

Foto Herreb
This morning a saw a picture in the newspaper that the left tower in the front has been propped up because of the bad conditions of the foundations. The building is sinking and threatens to be torn apart, numerous cracks are the result. The city council says it wants to take all measures necessary, crisis or not.

Bridge to nowhere / Sunday Bridges

This bridge in Almere is leading nowhere, it is closed with a locked gate. It was built as an entrance to a castle which is never finished and is still a ruine. If it ever will be completed is a matter of money.

Still waiting for many years now to become a real estate.

Indian restaurant

Yesterday we celebrated the birthday of my daughter with a very nice dinner in an Indian restaurant in Amsterdam. As nobody of my family wanted to appear on my blog you have to do it with this rainy photo on the street and a glimpse of the restaurant.

Daddy cool

Modern daddy's are looking after their child as the mother has to work. But to keep in shape they combine taking the baby out and have a run. This man  has his sportswear on, shoes, trousers but was only firm walking. I didn't dare to ask him have a run, would have been a better photo!

Skating rink

The skating rink in Almere City, mostly used by little children. Adults think this one is to small to skate on.
It is empty because all the children are at school.

I was such a beautiful bright calm day today with sunshine at last. This is the skyline of Almere City.

Red Bricks

In Amstelveen, a little place near Amsterdam, I found this building from 1896. It has been built as a townhall, but since 1980 it is an office. I like the typical dutch red bricks and the special tower with beautiful details.

Sunday Bridges

The "Staalmeestersbrug" (Steel master bridge)  in the Staalstreet corner Groenburgwal in Amsterdam.
A white-painted wooden drawbridge. The French painter Claude Monet has once painted this bridge.

Old and new.

The Old Church of yesterday's post from the outside and the exhibition of the modern art in it.
I have mixed feelings about  the exhibitions in old churches. I like the art but not the location. To keep the buildings in repair many old churches have to make money and let the building to others. But I like to see it as it is without things in it attracting my attention.
On the other hand when people come for the exhibitions they also see the beauty of the building.(I hope)
