Fountain
In the garden of the Rijkmuseum in Amsterdam it is always fun with the fountain. The boy hesitated, but his sister had no doubts. When you step in time in the centre you don't get wet, and you are surrounded by the water.
She is almost invisible, he is a still a bit worried....

Mercury Fountain
The Mercury Fountain in Leeuwarden dates from 1923. Mercury, the mythological Roman god of commerce, travel and profit can be seen on top of the pedestal.
The sculptor Professor G.A. Bredow (1875-1953) from Stuttgart was commissioned to portray the city of Leeuwarden important themes such as agriculture, livestock, fisheries, trade and traffic.
I like the man and his bull representing animal husbandry.
I think I'd rather see traditional fountains with sculptures than the modern waterworks I showed you last Sunday.

Sunday morning
The Wilhelmina square in Leeuwarden with the Court of Justice.
And the "modern"fountain. This kind of waterwork can be seen at every renovated square nowadays in the Netherlands. It goes on and off and especially children like to run through the water.
It reminds me of a school excursion when I was about 8 years old. We visited a park called "Little Tricksters" where you had to walk over a little square where you were fooled to watch some sculptures made of shells and suddenly without warning fountains under your feet started to spray. Everybody was shouting and running away which was great fun.
So I call these fountains "trick fountains".

Splash
Both love the fountain.
There are not so many fountains in Amsterdam, here in front of the Americain Hotel at the Leidsesquare was since 1965 a fountain which was a bit old and deteriorated. The founder of the Scapino Ballet troup, Miss Hans Snoek had after her death in 2001, left a legacy to the citycounsel to make a new fountain at this place. At June 12th 2006 a complete new fountain was placed which is now called the "Hans Snoek fountain".
