At the Museum square a little further, on a group of men had a game time.

Sunflowers
An oldie from the archives of 2015. The Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam celebrated the opening of a new glass entrance with a square full of sunflowers.
With a labyrinth of sunflowers to walk through.

Statement
"Ode to the pig" is the name of this artwork made by "Jantien Mook" at the Museum square in Amsterdam. The traveling pig makes a leap of joy. A leap to the freedom that every animal deserves. Ode to the pig is the symbol of one of the largest animal welfare campaings ever: the European citizins' initiative against the use of cages in animal livestock husbandry.

The Hand
At the Museumsquare of Amsterdam far from the other ARTZUID sculptures I discovered this pointing hand by Aime Mpane from the Republic of Congo, made out of wood.
You can see him at work at his website "Aime Mpane"

Ice princess
The pond in front of the the Rijks Museum in Amsterdam is transformed into an icerink during the winter. The ice has been broken now to melt it faster. Temperatures have risen to 8C (46F) now so spring is in the air.
This cute one was braving the ice floes while her grandmother kept an eye on her.
In the end she couldn't keep her balance.

How to take a picture
At the Museum square in Amsterdam with three museums around, there is always much to see. Tourists are walking criss-cross from the one museum to the other. Having a rest at a bench I spotted these three men discussing something.
It had to do with the iPhone and the right one caught me looking, oops....
All right that is how you do it!

Van Gogh interpretations
In the centre of the Sunflower labyrinth of yesterdays post was a little exhibition of paintings made by artists in the "spirit" of Vincent Van Gogh. It was very funny to see all the interpretations of his paintings. Look at Vincent with an I-phone and the bottle of Bokma Jenever on his table.
I also liked this modern version of his famous "Potato Eaters" a family sitting at the table with a deep plate with salted potatochips.
This is the original one.
And a family photographed with a plate of French fries.

Labyrinth
With a labyrinth of 125,000 sunflowers the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam celebrated the opening of the new entrance building last weekend. The glass entrrance you can see here on the right.
This was the labyrinth on an area of 7000 square meters.
When you climbed the stairs here you had a great overview as in the photo above.
And here a view of the labyrinth where you walked between the flowers.
There are always people with a better view. The Rijksmuseum is in the background.

Wet Amsterdam
I can't get enough of the rain pictures. This is the Museumsquare changed into a pond. President Obama landed here last year with his helicopter when he visited the Rijksmuseum. Now he would need a diving suit.
The amount of visiters in Amsterdam during the holidays time has disappeared it seems. At last some empty streets to walk along the canals. The brown building is "de Pieper", one of the oldest bars in town dating back to 1665, and with lots of the original furnishings still in place, like the stained glass windows and the sand covered wooden flooring.

Still raining
It is raining and raining for days here, nevertheless we decided to do a Museum in Amsterdam. Through this window in the Stedelijk Museum you have a nice look at the surrounding square.
And the people braving the rain.
A bit blurry but it represents very well the circumstances we have.
Tomorrow I'll show you the exhibition.
Tomorrow I'll show you the exhibition.

And a Van Gogh with his sunflowers.
The pond behind has changed now in an icerink during the winter which you can see in my post of january 14th here,

The Wall
Yesterday we went for a visit to the Museum of Modern Art in Amsterdam, that is close to the Rijksmuseum you can seen in the background. The wall of containers was raised for the arrival of President Obama who landed by helicopter here last monday. It was said to "protect" the Van Gogh Museum and the art inside, I don't know against what but I think it was just a security wall. Obama was not even allowed to walk the few meters from his helicopter to the museum but had to ride in his own car the "beast".
Here you can see the Van Gogh Museum just peeping above the wall, that workers were demolishing already.
This woman didn't mind the wall and enjoyed her moment of sunshine.
And fortunately Obama is still laughing, here with Wim Pijbes the director of the Rijksmuseum who grabbed his moment to have a photo with him to promote the museum in the american newspapers coming friday. Obama has left our country for Belgium now and things are back to normal, the roads are open again, people can sit on their balcony and climb in trees again. Now Brussels can have the "fun".

Skating
At the Museum Square in Amsterdam the usual pond has changed in a skating rink with a typical dutch "skinny bridge".
In the background you can see the "Rijks Museum".
Children learn to skate with the help of a chair to keep their balance.
It was fun to watch all the joy everybody had. Real ice or snow is far away here, temperatures are not winterly at all 12 C (53.6 F) an lots of rain.
When you didn't feel like skating you could have a drink and watch your children.

Queues
Between Christmas and New Year's Eve many people had holidays and decided to go to a museum. This queue is of visitors of the Van Gogh Museum that not even is seen in this photo, it is around the corner. This is just the end of the queue.
Another long queue for the Municipal Museum of Modern Art with an exhibition of the painter Malevich, which we still want to see, but maybe another time...
A Happy New Year to all fellowbloggers with lots of beautiful photos and stories.
