To cut down the trees in our home town Almere has no end it seems..

32 years old I counted.

At last a sunny day, so up to the Circle Forest in Almere Haven for a walk.

Although our woods are only 40 years old, the foresters here have a great desire to cut down trees.

You can see the two halves to the left and right.

I have no idea why this grown up tree had to be felled. We counted his age, only 36 years....

In the woods of Almere.

There are many elderberries.

We saw several dead little toads or frogs on the paths. I think they died of heat and didn't make it to the water.

We even have a little "mountain" in progress. It will take several years to get the resources they require to build this project.

And as usual this summer, you never know how long the sun will shine. When leaving the woods dark clouds approached very quickly.

After all the hectic of ships and crowds last weekend we took a walk in our nearby woods. At the entrance of most woods in the Netherlands you can find a sign like this placed by "Staatsbosbeheer" (State forest management). This is a public organization commisioned by the Dutch government and manages a sizeable amount of the nature reserves in the Netherlands.

They maintain, restore and develop our natural and cultural landscapes and promote the outdoor recreation.This signs says:

Free walks on roads and paths

No acces: 

- with no leashed dogs

- with bicycles outside the specified route

- to motorized vehicles and horses

Sad

Feeling sad today, we lost a close member of our family who was ill for some time and couldn't win his battle against cancer, only 69 years old.  Autumn is a melancholy season .....

Autumn walk

At 15 minutes cycling from our home we have nice nature to walk in. The weather is pretty good again, pleasant temperatures and no more rain. The trees still have their leaves and they are not yet coloured in brown or red.

When walking in the wood the doorway was suddenly blocked by this tree that had come down. We couldn't pass under so had to climb over it which we managed!

We saw the first mushrooms, I hadn't seen these before, they looked like oysters.

And these ones, like a general with his army.

A wet walk

After spending most of the days indoors because of the terrible weather, we decided to have a walk yesterday. The weather looked dry with even a bit of sunshine. On a 15 minutes walk from our home we have a nice wood to walk in but after 10 minutes we looked behind us and saw the dark clouds coming and there we went again, I couldn't even keep my camera dry.

 

We decided to walk on, we were wet already anyway, but had to avoid the nice sandy paths which had become a muddy mess.

 

And even a paved path looked like this. Well at least we had stretched our legs.

Autumn weekend

Autumn has really started here now, cold nights and mornings 2 degrees C (35.6 F)  and then a day full of sunshine which does the temperature rise to 14 degrees C (57.2). A good day to bike over the dike in Almere. The two men near the car were of Birdwatch and spotting birds, the barn-swallow,  who should have left our country already to the warm south countries, but still are flying around here. Maybe because of the warm "Indian Summer" we had lately, they are still hanging around here. Come on boys go south, it is becoming cold here.

We cycled home through the woods over small bumpy roads.
