Museum Hilversum

The museum is housed in the former town hall of Hilversum and initially exhibited especially local history. In 2005 the museum was expanded with a circular extension and redecorated. You can see the extension here at the back of the museum.

This is the new part with much light.

We saw a great exhibition "Meetings along the Yangtze" of photos by Ruben Terlou of his tour to China along the river Yangtze. He had a great televison program here about his journey "Along the banks of the Yangtze" but he is also an excellent photographer. See for more about the exhibit "here".

Sculpture

In Hilversum I noticed this cute sculpture of a child on a pony. It is made by dutch sculptor, painter and book designer "Hans Bayens" (1924-2003) . He made many sculptures and his work belonged to the independent realism.

Sales

At the Summer sales in Hilversum, I saw a very special offer in a shop window.

I think the cat wanted to have this bermuda very badly and decided to be the first one to get it.

After rain

We have a strange summer, from one moment to another it suddenly starts to rain heavenly. here in Hilversum. Everybody flights in a store or in a porch. Just a few minutes later the sun comes back as if nothing has happened.

 Even the streets are dry again in a few minutes.

This "Big Church" for Protestants has a history of fires. The first church on this place was destroyed by fires in 1629, In 1766 the church and tower were destroyed again by fires. The current building dates from 1768 and was extended in 1890. In 1971 work was carried out to the roof to fix leaks. On December 3, the tower caught fire with the spire including the two clocks were completey destroyed. The roof of the church collapsed but remained in the walls. In 1974 the restoration followed.
