The Botter
The "Botter" is an old Dutch type of fishing vessel dating from the 2nd half of the 18th century. Botters mainly fished in the former Zuidersea but were also used for coastal fishing on the North Sea.
You could make a tour over the Gooilake but we have done that many times before so just watched.

Harbour Days (3)
At the harbour days there were Shanty choirs to sing sailors songs.
They wear special old fashioned costumes.
They came from the north of our country from Groningen province.

Harbour Days (2)
The second day of the Harbour Days there is always a big flea market along the harbour.
Lots of old stuff our mothers used to grind coffee beans.
Two cute child seats.
You could take a boattrip over the Gooi lake in a lifeboat that went with a speed of 260 pk over the water. Not with me, no way!

Harbour days
Each year we have in september in our village Almere Haven the "Harbour days". On Saturday there is a big creative market where people can show there skills. I am each year impressed by what people can create. Look at this wooden fish, it is a puzzle you can built up yourself!
Looking so cute.
Watch that jacket in front, it s made out of wood!
Ceramic works.
Love this one!

Fireboat
At the Harbour Days in Almere you could have a tour on this historical boat named "Jan van der Heyde". It used to be a fireboat in Amsterdam which could help to extinguish a fire in a canal house in the narrow historical centre with water from the canal.
Here you can see the fire pump on deck at the left. I can remember I have seen the boat in action when I was a child living in Amsterdam.
Here a fireman in an old costume and helmet. The boat is now part of a museum in Almere.

Last weekend we had the Harbour Days in our village with a handcraft market where people could show and sell their creative skills. Here people were carving in alabaster.
This one made me laugh.

Harbour Days
At the Harbour Festivities in Almere Haven the visitors could have a sail with a Dutch "Botter".
The "Botter"is an old Dutch type vessel with a flat or slightly V-shaped face. The type originated in the 2nd half of the 18th century and was used for fishing on the former Southern Sea, but also for coastal fishing in the North Sea.
It has big brown sails but they used the motor by a lack of winds.
Of course there were also visitors who showed their own boats. The red one in front is the lifeboat of our village which gave some demonstrations.
