Art

In Nagele I noticed these black mysterious figures in the grass.

The only information I could find is their name "Pouled out of the clay". It reminds of the origin of the polder I suppose.

Iguanes

These Iguanas are crawling over the Leiden Square in Amsterdam.

They are made by artist Hans van Houwelingen and after a renovation of the Square the sculptures  are more visible now.

The square was always overloaded with parked bicycles. Now an underground parking has been created which has become a big improvement.

Fata morgana (Mirage)

Three dromedaries walk leisurely on the railway bridge over the Ring canal. They move like three dark silouettes along the horizon to the east. The dromedaries walk in the desolate stone desert of the urban landscape. Are they a mirage or are they real?

This  artpiece "Fata Morgana" in Amsterdam is made by Iris Le Rutte.

Statement

"Ode to the pig" is the name of this artwork made by "Jantien Mook" at the Museum square in Amsterdam. The traveling pig makes a leap of joy. A leap to the freedom that every animal deserves. Ode to the pig is the symbol of one of the largest animal welfare campaings ever: the European citizins' initiative against the use of cages in animal livestock husbandry.

Weekend reflections

Sometimes you walk into an Art Gallery,

And have no idea what you are looking at.

Art gallery

When walking through the Jordan neighbourhood in Amsterdam, we passed this strange green iron door from the outside. It looked like a garage door, when a lady walked out and said there was an art gallery behind and it was free to go inside and have a look.

So we had a look, there was nobody around only a lady who said hello and went behind the scenes again.

An idea for the cassette tapes everyone must have in a closet at home.

Have no idea what this means.

Don't look to long at this, it's going to move!

Art Deco

A walllamp from 1928, attributed to Willem Bogtman (1882-1955).
It is made of forged iron, stained glass, lead and gilt brass.
It was a gift of the American Lunchroom in Amsterdam in 1959 to the "Municipal Museum of Modern Art"  in Amsterdam.

Woman in Doorway

In the Stedelijk Museum for modern Art in Amsterdam.

Always curious what the artist has to say about his work I looked for the explanation.

It is just what it is....

Art in the canal

Weesp has in summer floating art in the canals.

The duck with ducklings and the crocodile are not real.

Two cosy birds.

Paintings

Young shepherdess 1645 painted by Govert Flinck a master pupil of Rembrandt.

Another portrait by Govert Flinck from 1654. Probably this is Johan de Moregnault, a representative of the States of Zeeland. Look at that (modern) face, you could come across him now too I think.
I saw these paintings in the Amsterdam Museum last week.

Sculpture

A sculpture by Belgian born artist "Panamarenko" , pseudonym of  Henri van Herwegen(1940). He is famous for his work with aeroplanes as theme; none of which are able nor constructed to actually leave the ground.
Panamarenko studied at the academy of Antwerp. Before 1968 his art was inspired by pop-art, but  early-on he became interested in aeroplanes and human powered flight. This interest is also reflected in his name, which supposedly is an acronym for "Pan American Airlines and Company".

Artwork

An artwork in Amsterdam with no name but popularly called the "Monkey table" made in 2005 by artist "Merijn Bolink" . A table where three mythical figures are pulled up.

The use of animals in visual art is an old fact. Usually they have a symbolic meaning.

For example a monkey symbolizes foolishness and vanity.

Acording to the artist these monkeys are an Estruscan spider monkey, an Amsterdam School macaque and a science fiction style gorilla.

Roller coaster

In an artgallery in Amsterdam a new project was in the testing phase when I came along. They had built a big roller coaster in this room.

These were the subjects that had to make a ride.

The box with doggie toys went up slowly.

At the highest point.

It went so fast I missed the dogs coming down but another subject I caught speeding along.

Doggies safe down. It was fun to watch.
