Canals
One from the archives of 2014 in the canals of Amsterdam, not one and a half meters distance, but a packed boat full of joy.
The heat is still on here, records of temperatures are broken every day.

Heatwave
Summer has not ended here yet, today tempertures rise to 29 degrees C (84.2 F). So time to find some coolness on the water.
And have a party.
Or make a canaltour. Linking to "Our World Tuesday"

Floating Sofa
Of all the little boats sailing in the canals of Amsterdam during the summer this must be the most special one.
Hubby SC was so curious, he asked them some information. Well they built the vehicle themselves it has an outboard motor to sail around and it is floating on eight empty barrels of oil.
Creative couple, don't you think. Linking to "Our World Tuesday"

Summer in the city
With summer temperatures of 26 C (78F) degrees everything that can float goes in the water in the canals of Amsterdam. Here an open touristboat.
Pedalos and motorboats.
An old army boat. I leaned over the bridge railing and some bicycles I see now with the handlebars in front.
With music and a drink. Linking to "Our World Tuesday"

Boats
With the pretty spring weather the tourists boats in Amsterdam are in the water again, although they are sailing through the year I think only not when there is ice in the canals, which we didn't had at all this winter.
Some owners of a boat had their first sailing, but their are still many waiting at the side.
But this owner has a problem.
I saw some new kind of little boats for hire, the electric sailing "Sun-boats". They have solar-panels on top and are environmentally friendly with less noices

Messy ducks
The ducks made a mess of this boat cover in a canal in Amsterdam.
But they don't bother to sleep between the shit. I think the owner hasn't used the boat very often or has given up to clean it .

Broken records
With the unusual warm weather we have at the moment all weather records are broken. It has never been 18.6 C (65 F) degrees before in the Netherlands at this time of the year. Our last winter has broken records as well, actually we didn't have a winter at all. When the Dutch see sun outside everybody wants to enjoy it and goes outside. The first boat-parades in Amsterdam have started already.
Some were not yet prepared to sail and had to check the engine first.
And me, I got my garden chair from the attic and enjoyed the sun in the backyard reading a book.

Gondola in Amsterdam
Amsterdam is sometimes called the Venice of the North, because of the many canals there are. It seems Venice is coming to Amsterdam now. Only the weather is not so warm as in Venice I suppose.
The gondolier was a woman and it was hard work for her to keep it going on her own.
And then there are the low bridges to pass!

Saturday night
We still have no real summer here but Amsterdam people don't bother and go out with a boat anyway. At a saturday night it is on the canals almost as crowded as in the streets.
This boat with only boys on board, students probably, we heard from a far distance coming with very loud music, the "boink, boink, boink" sound. Passing a boat with young girls was very exciting for them.
Others were more quiet with just a family on board.
As long it can float and has an engine you can go.

Cruise ship
You could almost imagine this photo is made in the tropics, but since we have a cruise terminal in Amsterdam you see these huge floating "tower blocks" sailing over the IJ-river, behind the Central Station. I made this picture while SC was driving and I saw something big moving at the right.
The ship was just leaving Amsterdam and many passengers stood on top, watching the city passing by, which was funny to see. I googled the ship, it is 293.0 metres long and 32.0 metres wide. It has 2500 passengers, 869 crew members and 12 decks. It contains a mini golf course, a climbing wall and all kind of entertainment.
I don't think I will ever make a cruise travel like this, it is not my kind of holiday.

Comfortable?
It was a sunny but chilly weekend, but people are desperate to believe it is time to sail with the boat in the Amsterdam canals. I can't imagine this boat is meant to be for four people and it must be rather uncomfortable for the two ladies almost sitting in the water. I wouldn't dare.
