Last Sunday in a park in Abcoude with huge old trees.

Trees

 A small Wertheim park in Amsterdam has five very old monumental trees, most of them are over 100 years old. There are some platan trees and ash trees.

They are still bald now but in summer they look glorious.

Summer in the park

Summer has finally arrived here with nice temperatures and summer holidays for the kids. So this mother took a break with cycling with the boys in the park in Almere Haven.

Wood

We have a lovely park, the Kromslootpark, close by that we enjoy for more then 36 years now. As everything was new in our polder, so was the park and we saw it grow greener and more beautiful. One part of it at the other side is completely destroyed in order to widen a highway. Many trees were cut down and now I see they can't stop felling and started at the other side as well.

The tree trunks are accumulated along the roads.

Also in our neighbourhood between the houses we hear daily the tree cutters. Our village is supposed to be a green one but not for long anymore I am afraid. I have heard a city council can earn a lot of money with selling wood....

The Eastpark

Amsterdam has several parks named after the area where it is situated, so this is called the "Eastpark". It has been recently renovated with removing some trees and creating these circles I hadn't seen before.

The old bandstand is fortunately still there.

And the old wooden bridge from 1929.

With the funny Chinese masks. It is said the designer of the bridge "Kramer", was probably inspired by the nearby Tropical Museum.

I was born not far from this park and I have played here very often as a child until I was six years old and moved to the south area of Amsterdam.

A walk in the park

After all the threatening warnings for snowfall last saturday, this is what we had last sunday. A bright frosty sunny day ready for a walk in the nearby Kromslootpark in Almere Haven.

There was some ice in the puddle.

But no ice in the pond.

So the swans could peddle around in the icy water.

We met some strange creatures with very long legs.

Warm

Temperatures will rise today up to 30 C degrees (86F), so time to take it easy.

Fortunately there are plenty of parks in Amsterdam to relax.

Rolling, rolling, rolling

Sitting on a bench in the Vondelpark a parade of cyclist past by, which was funny to watch.

These are tourists with rented bikes as you can see at the red and blue colours and the bag or sign in front.

A couple on their Bromptons, don't know what the woman is wearing on her head, looks like a bird.

Some roll with three wheels.

Or even four wheels.

And the living is easy....

Still enjoying high summertimes  here, as in the Sparphatipark in Amsterdam.

I always like to watch dogs enjoying the outdoor life. First a snif,

He, he, that was nice!

We still have high temperatures and no thunderstorms in our neigbourhood. The heatwave is now official, 5 days in a row with temperatures above 30 degrees C

Weekend Reflections

The music pavilion in the Vondelpark in Amsterdam reflects perfect in the pond.

If you have a close look at the photo above you can see this heron who was walking in slow motion over the water it seemed. It was funny to see how he was spotting something apparently we couldn't see.

Vondelpark

The Vondelpark is one of the most beautiful parks in Amsterdam. In summer it is very green and many  people enjoy it to cycle, to run or relax on the lawns or just to walk as we did. These trees are "Vleugelnoot"  trees (wing-nut?) can't find the english translation.

A rock in the pond with Nile Goose? I am not sure, you see them everwhere here nowadays. They used to live in Egypt but like it here very much and don't go back anymore.

When we had just passed under this tree on our way to leave the park, we heard a loud crack behind us.

Look at this thick branche which came down out of the blue and felt to pieces,  almost upon our heads! We had a little gardian angel on our shoulder I suppose.

A walk in the park

We enjoy some pretty nice weather at the moment and went for a walk in the Kromslootpark in Almere Haven. It is a nice park with sheep to keep the grass short. To prevent them of walking away you have to pass some fences and have to watch they keep behind. This one was eager to cross the bridge but we managed to pass him.

They have plenty room to walk around and a lot to eat.

It is a beautiful park where you hardly see any other visiters.

The park was created before the first houses of the new town Almere Haven were built and after 38 years it has devellopped a nice nature to have close by, only a 15 minutes bike ride from our home.

Balancing act

In the Westerparc in Amsterdam this girl was practising to walk over a rope with the help of a friend.

After a while she nearly managed to walk on her own.

The nice weather we had here has gone again, temperatures dropped to 14 C (57.2 F) with rain and winds. so we had two days of spring......

Friday Fences

In the Kromslootpark in Almere eleven Scots Highlanders have come to join the sheep who already graze there. They seem to eat different parts of the vegetation I read. The parc is accessible for pedestrians and these animals are harmless for visitors is told, but I was glad to see him behind a fence, those horns....
