A bench

This is a sculpture in Amsterdam of "Alida Bosshardt"  (1913-2007), better known as Major Bosshardt, a well known officer in the Salvation Army. She worked at the Army's national headquarters in Amsterdam and noticed the Army had no activities in the "Wallen", the red -light district, and obtained permission to start working there. Her work for the prostitutes gained her national fame.

In 1965 she accompanied a disguised Princess Beatrix with wig, scarf and glasses, on a secret visit of the red-light district where they were caught by a photographer.
As a tribute to her the bench was placed in 2013 in "the Wallen" the area where she had worked. She seems to invite you to sit next to here and comfort you.
