Open Monuments Weekend (2)

The second monument I visited was the Muiderpoort, a city gate from1771 which was part of the fortifications of Amsterdam. It was primarily used as office for toll and tax collection.

This is the ceiling under the gate opening.

This was the room on the first floor where the gatewatcher lived. The Gate is now in use as an office  by the Dutch Order of Tax Advisers and this is their relax room I suppose. You could have a worse place to do your work.

At the second level were the stairs to the dome on the top.

On top I had a good view at the octagonal dome and cupola, made of wood.

It is always nice to have a view from above.

Above the gate at the pediment you can see the coat of arms of Amsterdam with the three Andreas crosses.
