The "bakfiets" (carriercycle) has become a common transport for parents in Amsterdam the last ten years. When I had young children I cycled with one in the front hanging in a seat at my handlebars and one at the back in a seat at the luggagecarrier. This must be much easier I think, you can put some other stuff in the carrier as a little bike of the boy.
I scanned an old photo of myself from 1979! We had just moved from Amsterdam to the country in the middle of nowhere as you can see in the background. My only transport was the bike and I had to bring my eldest daughter to school twice a day and to pick her up again also twice. So with two kids on my bike I had enough physical exercise.

Happy memories for you? We now have sunshine too.....long may it last!

Oh my! I wonder if the young parents of today would even consider the thought of having to peddle their children back and forth to school. I like that photo from 1979. I need to try to scan a photo soon for an upcoming post a couple weeks off. Hope I can figure it out.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenhow very very very dutch!! i like it!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenand the photo of you is wonderful! my mom did exactly the same with me and my sister. i remember once it was too heavy with the 2 of us, and groceries... and we fell... nothing bad but i think from then on she decided that we had become too big for being both transported on her bike.
I was always amazed by the Dutch Mom's who were able to do this...and usually with groceries also attached!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenMy you were pretty! Still are...
De bakfiets zie je alleen maar in Nederland. Leuk om eens een foto van jouw te zien uit 1979, het geboortejaar van Kristel.

Filip
I have not seen a front carrier with side by side seating for two.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenWhen my son was about 2 my wife and I were riding our bicycles and she fell over with the boy in a rear kiddy seat. I raced to catch up with her and was concerned to see that the little one was crying. I asked if he was hurt and my wife said "no, he is just mad because he dropped his snack".
Both mothers on these Glad you scanned the photo...nice to meet you!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThat photo from 1979 is great!! My mother did it the same way, I always liked it a lot in the backseat :-)
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI Loved the old photo of you! That is the one thing I noticed when I visited Holland , everyone is in shape!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenJust loved that photo of you. I biked like that as well. One kid on the front and one on the back. When I was in Amsterdam I made a picture of that exact same bakfiets
BeantwoordenVerwijderenLove it
