At the Staglione cemetery in Genoa this sculpture in one of the galleries was so unusual. Not so dramatic as all the others but such a touching little girl sitting on the tomb in what looks like sand.
I agree that it is sad, but in keeping with other statues you have shown us from Staglione. They treat grave ornamentation almost as a diorama ... I think this child is on a the grave of a parent, continueing to mourn down through the ages. Remember that one of the father and child that you (or SC or Sanna) showed of the father and child mourning the loss of the mother. Very realistic of a family in mourning. The trustees of Staglione appeared to have an artistic aim, right from the get-go.
I'm fascinated by your photos of genoa cemetery, and would like to visit it. Have you a main blog that you have written about Genoa? is it easy to go into the cemetery?
Such a sad little sight!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenSo hauntingly beautiful.

this does seem very odd - even her hair, that is tied up like that and not flowing, does not feel right, somehow.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI am assuming that it is a child's grave which makes it even more poignant.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenMaybe the sand...has meaning. I wonder what?
BeantwoordenVerwijderenAt first I thought it really was sand until I looked a bit closer. So unusual!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI'm sure there is a story behind this. It is a little sad.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenWat een schitterend graf. Misschien van een kind spelend met zand, zoals ze het laatst werd gezien.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenIt certainly grabs your attention. 'Mooi' als je dat van een graf kunt zeggen.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenPlezierige woensdag.
Sad but also very beautiful
BeantwoordenVerwijderenSo cute but so sad.
