The only art museum "De Paviljoens" we had in Almere was closed July 1st, because the city counsel decided to stop the subsidy. The Pavilions were originally built by the Belgian architects Paul Robbrecht and Hilde Daem as temporary exhibition halls for 1992's Documenta IX in the German city of Kassel. Two years later they were moved to Almere-City where the pavilion complex served as space for Museum the Pavilions.
The last 10 days the museum was filled with thousands of balloons in different colours, a work by Martin Creed, named "Half the Air in a Given Space". Visitors could walk through the balloons.
I didn't make the walk, it was to claustrophobic for me, but many people did the last days to support the employees who lost their jobs now. Nobody knows yet what is going to happen with the pavillions.
That would be fun walking through he balloons. Sad to here that the pavilions are closing and people are losing their jobs.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenApparently the buildings can be moved. So there is hope!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenSad to hear jobs closing and hopefully they will be able to find others, however; the walk through the balloons would be quite exciting. What a neat idea and oh, so colourful.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenHow sad that it is closing. I wonder how many of those balloons burst as the people were walking through.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenWhat a terrible loss. . .for everyone!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenSorry that there wasn't a way to keep it open. I think I would have enjoyed the balloon walk.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenTom and I were in Kassel on an exchange.
I'm with you Marianne, I would give the 'walk' a miss also. Hope they do something constructive with the pavillions..wonder what the council is doing with all the money !
BeantwoordenVerwijderenUiteindelijk draait het weer allemaal om geld... Erg jammer voor het museum!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenvery sad story, I love the colourful last expo though!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenDearest Marianne,
BeantwoordenVerwijderenGuess my comment disappeared. We have heavy thunderstorms and the connection at times is gone.
Sad decision made for closing this museum after 20 years. But those that make that decision are not depending on a salary from it.
Often they are pruning the wrong financial branches...
Hugs to you,
Mariette
Het lijken zulke feestelijke foto's met al die gekleurde ballonnen, maar het is een triest bericht wat ik hier lees.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenthats sad. it looks pretty with all the balloons! i think i would have liked to walk through them......
