In the CODA Museum in Apeldoorn this piece of art made of public library books hurts my feelings a bit. As a former librarian I always told people to be careful with the books, not to lay down them with the pages open, because they still had a long way to go. And here they are all smashed together to a globe....
I am with you in your feelings for the treatment of books. As for these...well I see a Danielle Steel so no great loss there.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThis kinda shocked me - all those books?? who knows why books are displayed like this,( whatever the artist saw, I do not - but still books - I remember the golden rule my Mother laid down - take care of your books - well, that didn't apply to this sphere of books, eh ! Nice photos
BeantwoordenVerwijderenEen letterlijke boekenbol. Grappig.

Well, there are many discards in a library. Books become out or date or are never read any more. You have to make room for new books. So not to worry as these books I hope would be discards.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenDearest Marianne,
BeantwoordenVerwijderenWith you I'm feeling exactly the same way. There is something almost sacred to a book; for me at least. Probably that's because we do have hundreds of books in our home. Books are knowledge and yes, their life is not over with when being read once!
Hugs,
Mariette
In the last school where I worked, books we no longer had a use for were sent to schools and communities in Africa where they do not have the access that we have to so much reading material. A better use perhaps than this so called piece of art.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenOh my, I was going to say exactly the same as Sinbad (first comment) ..it does make for a unique piece of art though Marianne :)
BeantwoordenVerwijderenoooh, its interesting. but those points about treating books... i agree. i used to love reading out in the sun when i was younger, and would often leave my book open as you described, in the sun. then my mom always said; no!! take better care of your books!
