Last Sunday the sun was shining so bright, I was almost blinded by the light but a great day to have a walk in Amsterdam. So today some pictures of the old historic centre of the city. This is the Zoutkeets canal and the two buildings with the red shutters used to be warehouses which are transformed into houses.
This is at the Singel with all different houses built close to each other. In the centre you see how narrow some streets are.
And here another view at the Singel. Parking your car along the water is a tricky business and sometimes there is one diving in the water. There are opinions to ban the cars from the canals and I must admit I would prefer that too. Although the right one is a French Beauty they don't match with the historical buildings I think.
I actually know someone who is working in "A" with a group of others to convert a warehouse into living space. Sounds like a great idea!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenGreat buildings. love the red shutters.....The windows in the Netherlands are always so clean. I heard once that everyone could tell a foreigners house by the dirty windows?
BeantwoordenVerwijderenaltijd heel mooi om in beeld te brengen, zeker met zoveel zon als extra lichtbron erbij
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThose red shutters really stand out, even on the reflections!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenWhere do people keep their cars?
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThey park them in garages or in streets in the neighbourhoods. Parking in the inner city is however very expensive. You have to pay crazy amounts of money everywhere. When you live here you have the right to obtain a parking licence, which can take years to get one.
VerwijderenIt is better to go by bike or public transport to move around in the city.
Goodness me Marianne, so many different styles and yet they work so well together to make a very appealing vista.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenMooi in beeld gebracht!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThe buildings are absolutely stunning - and the reflections you captured are amazing. I love the looks of the buildings, all built one upon another - but as for houses - I prefer mine with more space around it. We are very spoiled here in the US to have space to spread out most of the time.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThere is no mistaking that architecture. Stunning photos of such a beautiful place.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenYou show some very colorful and attractive buildings. This is one of the few photos you show cars in.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenDearest Marianne,
BeantwoordenVerwijderenLove the warehouse with the red shutters that got transformed now into several homes! Those typical canal houses are the very ones that KLM Royal Dutch Airlines did create for their gift of Delft Blue canal houses! Love that architecture.
Hugs,
Mariette
Wonderful, they look like something straight out of a fairytale book
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThere are so many interesting houses in Amsterdam. I remember being fascinated with them when we were there. I love the red shutters.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenGreat light and so many interesting details. (Including the old car to the right in the last image.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenGreat photos, thank you for sharing your pictures of all the houses and the canals. It was like I was there with you! ;-)
BeantwoordenVerwijderenGreetings from the USA!
Michael
how pretty!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenyes, and biking next to the cars is often not fun...
