An Italian/American artist Arturo di Monica placed this bronze bull of 2.5 tons weight, to everyone's surprise secretely in the night of 5 July 2012 in front of the Amsterdam Bourse. Di Monica (71) had put in 1989 the same sculpture at the New York Stock Exchange. He did so without a license, as is already happening in Amsterdam. The bull in New York is still there and is a landmark now.
The artist chose a bull in the financial district, because attacking with his head down, after which the victim is thrown, the same movement as do the prices on the stock market up. His message to Europe, which is in an economic downturn : Think positive, we must fight.
The sculpture has been moved already a few meters on the square once by the city district despite its weight and it still is not certain it will stay here. The square will be renovated very soon so it has to move again which costs lots of money.
That certainly is a lot of bull!
BeantwoordenVerwijderen:-) to Kate's response.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenAs soon as I saw it I thought that is the same bull that I saw in New York and then I read your story. I hope it can stay there. It has nice lines as well as an optimistic feeling.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThis is really kinda cool - the only bull I have ever seen like this was in a bull fight that I attended when in Spain - I was amazed and terrified at the same time to see the Matador face such strength and not so happy about the outcome for the great bull. Lovely picture and nice history.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenwould not want to have to move a bull!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThat's a bunch of bull to me.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenRather aggressive chap
BeantwoordenVerwijderenAn interesting post that I enjoyed reading. Great bull!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThank you. Love love, Andrew. Bye.
Ziet er best gevaarlijk uit.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenHoe krijg je het nou voor elkaar om stiekum midden in de nacht zo'n groot gevaarte midden in de stad neer te zetten. Wel een mooi beeld.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenQuite a fitting sculpture for the financial district.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThe story and the sculpture are both very interesting. The meaning is very definite.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenDearest Marianne,
BeantwoordenVerwijderenLOVE this bull, great art work and let's hope it will stay near the stock exchange! It is too big for our garden but it would be great for Pieter's zodiac sign.
Hugs and happy weekend.
Mariette
