A few weeks ago the King and Queen of Sweden paid a visit to Amsterdam. They were received in the Palace at Dam square which is not actually in use as a palace but only for receptions or diners with our own King and Queen. The rest of the time it is open to the public to have a look inside which I once did and is very nice. For the occasion two guards posted at the door.
I didn't see any royal, I just passed by and noticed the whole place was trimmed with fences and the Swedish and Dutch flag were placed on the empty square which is usually a very crowded place.

It looks like it might have seen a few receptions over the years.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenwoooow, so empty!!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenthanks for the link. we were around the keukenhof, just a few fields, i had expected more, so i really am interested in the route in that link!! hopefully we can go there as well soon... :)
ah, and i think the boston bomber is still waiting for his trial.
yesterday we were running in the vondelpark, and i was thinking, it would be fun if biebkriebels was walking here now... but i didnt see you :D
I have never seen it so empty...usually a bustle of activity . I also didn't know that the palace had tours. Nice to know.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenIt looks very grand!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenquite grand and imposing! thanks for linking up to good fences! :)
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThe more you look at these photos , the more you see.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenthe temporary fencing seems so insignificant as compared to the grand castle. the railing above the arches is fence like and very beautiful!!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI like the fences on the balcony above the arches in the first picture much better than the crowd control ones!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenSo many windows. I hope the king and queen of Sweden enjoyed their stay. I'd like to see the inside as I imagine it is beautiful.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI would love to see inside that beautiful castle. Love it!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenStunning photo, as are the rest of your photos, posted before this one. Very nice.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThe palace is beautiful, the iron railing is attractive. I guess for safety reasons they must put up the fence around the outside.. Great shots!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenA great post and I love your header.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenDearest Marianne,
BeantwoordenVerwijderenMaybe you missed the royals but you still captured a quite unique picture.
Hugs to you,
Mariette
This is just a lovely building, but it looks sad and empty - too bad the King and Queen do not use this as a place to have their own suite of rooms to stay now and then - but then the square would have to do the whole security thing and public probably wouldn't have access anymore. Very nice photos.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenOur city is all a buzz today as Prince William, Kate and baby George are here. We stayed away from the crowds and will see it on TV later.
