The orphanage in Gouda was built in the first half of the seventeenth century and served until just before the First World War. After this period te building was in use by various schools. Until 2014 Gouda's Public Library was located in the beautiful restored building.
Above the gate which gives access to the courtyard is a plaquette with two orphans and Gouda's city weapon.
The building in the courtyard.
With a terrace.
Wonderful masonry.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenNice building. Hopefully there's never a need for another orphanage.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenEr zijn nog veel van die oude weeshuizen te vinden in de steden. Dit is een prachtig gerestaureerd gebouw.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenWhat an amazing building, not too sure about the iron bars on the windows, makes it look a bit like a prison.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenTake care, Gordon.
Such a pretty building. I love the red shutters.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenA beautiful building with lots of history. I'm amazed at seeing all those shutters. They sure do add to the character of the building. I like the courtyard, nice place to sit talk and have a bite to eat.

BeantwoordenVerwijderenHello, I came directly from "Andarilho".
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThis is a beautiful building. The terrace is nicely located. I would gladly have a cup of tea there... and a couple of scones!
