A piece of Amsterdam

The "Raadhuisstraat" dating from 1895, is a street in downtown Amsterdam and is named after the former Town Hall or City Hall, now the Royal Palace. It is the only street in Amsterdam with an indoor gallery.

It is a busy street with lots of traffic so a bit difficult to come closer.

Look at the monumental houses with all the details as the open pieces with pillars on top.

In the background the Westertoren (Westtower) which bells  Anne Frank always heard during her hiding in WW2 close behind the church.

A view at the ever growing queues of visitors to the Anne Frank House with the West Church at the right.

  4. My daughter never got through the line to see Anne Frank's hiding place when she visited Amersterdam this year and she was so disappointed. Maybe another time. It would give me chills to hear the bells she heard. The buildings on the street are so elegant.

  7. A beautiful city with some wonderful architecture. Anne Frank's memory is still very powerful around the world. I saw a exhibition devoted to her in Portland, Oregon back in the 90s. It was very moving to see.

  9. The buildings with the gallery are exquisite. Those shopping galleries are great in winter. I remember them when I lived in Switzerland.
