Little House

In the middle of a busy street in Amsterdam you can find this little wooden building with an interesting history. It dates from 1896 as a Police Station House with two heartheating coal stoves. During the vigilant works this Post was a pleasant interruption for the policemen.

From 1915 to 1984 the building  was used as a public toilet. And now a catering service has taken over the building with the pompous name "City Palace".

  10. Oh, I wish I'd seen that when we were in Amsterdam. It's wonderful. But we were just flying into Amsterdam one day and leaving on a cruise the next day...and we did that twice! I would have loved to see more of Amsterdam, especially this little police station!

  11. Love that little building - we had a similar one in a town that I used to live in. It was for carriage drivers originally to take a break and brew themselves a hot drink and then it became a place used by the local taxi drivers .

  13. For some strange reason, I am so glad it is no longer a public toilet. It deserves better than that.
