King's Day

Today we celebrate the one and fiftieth birthday of our King Willem-Alexander. I made this photo of him and his family from television. They celebrate his birthday each year in another city and this year it is Groningen far in the north of our country.

The Dutch people celebrate this day off traditionally with a "free market" that stands for selling your attic stuff and everthing you want to get rid of in the streets.

Children try to earn some money with playing music.

And selling toys and other stuff.

Poor doll was for sale. I would never sell my dolls when I was a kid or even grown up.

  1. Enjoy the Public Holiday Marianne. The Royal family looks very well in that tv photo.
My daughter had already sent me a few photos of crowds of people in the streets wearing orange and drinking beer 😄.

  5. Oh, this brings back memories. When we visited Amsterdam six years ago, it was Queen's Day and we had such a grand time with street entertainment and vendors and all the bright orange. Big, happy memory sigh!

  9. Nice to see such a lovely "young" royal family.
I like the idea of everyone selling their wares on the same day!
