Liberation Day

Today it's Liberation Day in our country, the end of WWII on May 5th 1945 by the Canadian army forces, which we are eternally grateful for. The weather looks great with lots of sunshine, so everybody will enjoy this holiday.

  2. Happy Liberation day. When I lived there my Canadian friend always wore her maple leaf jacket...and the Dutch were stopping her to say thank you all those years later!

  12. My father was in Europe with the Canadian Army at that time. He was a musician in the Canadian Army Show, based in England, and their job was to keep up the morale of the Allied Forces while bombs dropped all around them.
My husband and I have visited the graves of Canada's fallen soldiers in France but, even though we've visited Amsterdam more than once, I'm afraid we didn't think about graves.
I, for one, am grateful to all Europeans who cared about, and often helped, Canada's soldiers.
    Thank you.

    1. Thanks for your reaction, there is a Canadian War Cemetery in Groesbeek near the city of Arnhem where a terrible battle with the Germans took place. Here is a link https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Groesbeek_Canadian_War_Cemetery
