An interesting tradition. It sounds similar to the tradition here of eating black-eyed peas on New Years Day.
They look a bit like a doughnut, and I bet that they are a delicious treat. Wishing you a very happy 2019.
Yum! We eat Hoppin’ John on New Years — black-eyed peas and rice — for good luck all year.

Fijne oudejaarsavond!
They look delicious but never had one. Happy 2019 to you and s.c.
The Portuguese have a similar recipe but they get made for Christmas too. Because they aren't very sweet we then make a syrup with sugar, water and Port wine to pour over them :)
Are these the ones you made?
