The cube houses in Rotterdam are 38 cube-shaped pile dwellings and 13 business cubes. They were built in 1982 and 1984 by architect Piet Blom. The cube houses are built in the shape of a tilted cube on a pole and are also called pile dwelling or tree dwelling.
In a post of 2014 I had more pictures of them "here"
A very unusual sight. I felt a little off balance just looking.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenOh wow. Surely they are not so off center inside!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenHello Marianne!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI have read about those unique houses, but I haven’t seen them yet!
Maybe next month when I’m visiting my daughter in the Netherlands!
Stunning picture! Enjoy your weekend!
Dimi...
I remember seeing these houses on my first visit to Rotterdam in 1986, and there was one building that looked like a pencil if I'm not mistaken. I always wondered how the apartment would look inside, so it was nice to be able to see that in Stefan's blog. Thanks Marianne.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenIk wist niet dat ze er al zo lang stonden. Blijft bijzonder om te zien.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenWow, those are definitely different.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenVery different indeed!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenLove those.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThese are amazing. I'm going to do some research and see if I can find some photos from inside.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenFascinating buildings. I 'd like to see the interior structure and floor plan.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenHe also built three of them here in Toronto but last summer they were in danger of being torn down so that condos could be built on the site. I'm not sure what happened - I will have to investigate.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenLooks like it could give some a headache.
