The climbing Pete's with golden faces this year, are back in the department store "the Beehive" in Amsterdam.
They are the helpers of Saint Nicolas, the Bishop of Mira from Spain, who's birthday we celebrate December 5th in the Netherlands. That evening the children get gifts from him which are thrown through the chimney by the Pete's.
As you will understand that is a mythical story as there are not many chimney's anymore nowadays.
Your Christmas tradition is different than the what happens here but the end results are still the same.

BeantwoordenVerwijderenOh ik was te vroeg. Ik dacht dat ze niet meer klommen, daar. Gelukkig dus wel. En een gouden gezicht is prima. Ik was vorige week erg teleurgesteld over erg weinig Sint-versieringen, daar in het centrum. Wel heel veel kerst.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenIk was ook heel verrast ze weer te zien, vorig jaar stond er een reusachtige kerstboom. Bij Scheltema hebben ze wel een mooie Sinterklaas versiering aan de gevel.
