I continue with the cemetery Staglione in Genoa, Italy. Last week we had the adonis, this week the ladies. Several tombs had a grieving lady on it. It is no angel as I first thought because she has no wings.
This one looked a bit scary, almost like a corpse on the tomb.
I absolutely loved visiting this cemetery.
BeantwoordenVerwijderen(and by looking at your photos, I think we all have slightly different ones so no-one should be bored when we all post!)
Some of these are pretty elaborate.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenFantastic picture. The last one is a little bit creepy!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThe sculptures here are quite detailed and lovely. I am amazed that the tomb from 1956 has such detail and artistry.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenBises,
Genie
BeantwoordenVerwijderenGroetjes,
Filip
Some very elaborate and beautiful carvings. I agree that last one is a bit too realistic!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThey don't make them like that anymore.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenNo, not angels, just maidens in perpetual mourning, perhaps. Except the last one; not sure what she with the big feet is supposed to add to the story. :-)
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThey all look a bit creepy to me, although they are nice sculptures.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenFancy having that on your grave. Is it supposed to scare you into not making an appearance after death?
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThese are amazing, it is a little alarming to see life sized figures lying atop the tombstones, but they are beautifully sculpted.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI loved the first two photos
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThat final sculpture reminds me of 'Juliet'. They are all incredible works of artistry in stone (marble).
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThis cemetery, thus far, is a joy. The other thing I note, is that is does not appear to be jam-packed with tombstones packed up against each other.
This is the one with the little 'train' to get tourists around, yes?
Quite gorgeous.
Julie,
BeantwoordenVerwijderenYes, it is the huge one in Genoa with the shuttle driving around.
There is a more modern part where the graves are lined up and rather jam-packed. I will show later.
