Amsterdam

A view of a street in the old innercity of Amsterdam a few weeks ago. Watch the cyclist riding with two bikes, one at his left hand. Some people can but I never managed to do this balancing act. It is mostly done because of a flat tyre or to bring a bike to a friend. As long as you don't have to walk with the bike.
The second thing that caught my eye is the mattress on the pavement. As long as I can remember I always have seen a mattress in a street somewhere even in my place.  I really don't know why people dump it in the street, you buy something new and you throw the old one out of the window?

  1. Vooral het op- en afstappen lijkt me lastig. En nee, ik begrijp ook niet hoe sommige mensen op deze manier dingen weggooien, en dus een ander met het probleem opzadelen.

  2. Looks like a pretty neighborhood, except for the mattress. Would it even fit out the window?

  3. I love the dexterity of the cyclist...wish I could do that! The mattress certainly doesn't add anything to that otherwise neat and tidy street. I can't imagine anyone disposing of their "garbage" in that way. Very odd.

  4. Here in California if you see someone leading a second bike along it is usually because it is stolen. The mattress thing, an all too common sight here along with washing machines, refrigerators, big black plastic garbage bags, automobiles, bodies...
