Yesterday the royal palace released a statement that Prince Friso has passed away at the age of 44. He was the second son of Princess Beatrix and the younger brother of King Willem Alexander. In February 2012 he was in a skiing accident in Austria where he was burried in an avalanche that left him with severe brain damage and caused him into a coma. Prince Friso died from complications that arose as a consequence of the brain damage caused by oxygen deprivation following the skiing accident.
The father-of-two who leaves his wife Princess Mabel and their two daughters Luana and Zaria, passed away at the Palace Huis ten Bosch in the Hague where he was being cared for.
Friso was born in 1968, here with Princess Beatrix and Prince Claus and his brother Willem Alexander
It is sad he died so young but to live a vegetative life for one and a half year without any chances for recovery must have been so hard for everyone involved, that I think it is the best way for him.

BeantwoordenVerwijderenWhat a wonderful looking family - so sad to have had the accident and to have lost life in this manner. It is very sad indeed, however; not to live a vegetative life is a great relief and lifting of burden on family. Prayers and thoughts to family.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenoh dear. That is terrible!!! He was very young.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenTragic Marianne, so young. Very sad for the royal family.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenWhat a sad fate to befall the family!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI saw that in the news last night but didn't know anything about him.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenDearest Marianne,
BeantwoordenVerwijderenSad thing, following this tragic accident. Skiing has caused worldwide quite some fatalities...
Tragic for those two daughters for growing up without their Daddy being around and also for Princess Mabel for raising them without her husband.
Hugs,
Mariette
