The pretty city of Sneek is wellknown for its water sports in summer, but in winter it is a quiet place of course. Fortunately we discovered a museum for model railways where this freight locomotive from 1949 was placed outside as attention getter.
Although I think those railways things is more a men's intererest, I must admit I was rather impressed by the displays with ridings trains, stations, tunnels and all kind of buttons to push as the trains went on and off from all kind of directions.
The landscapes were made very creative with mountains and many details.
Look at all the details, the people walking and sitting on the platforms, even with baby's on their lap.
The pretty landscapes with houses and woods.
And everywhere you could hear trains coming by with whistles. I liked it very much, they say older people become a bit childlike sometimes......
Wow! Some people have great hobbies.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenEngineering feats in miniature.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI have known at least two men that became totally absorbed with this hobby.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThat looks like a great place top visit. Reminds me a bit of Maduradam (sp).
It is extraordinarily well-done! Lots to see and to enjoy!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThis is a true engineering structure - I have a friend that would love this post, so am sharing today Marianne. Really wonderful "Train" post.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenYep I could see the childlike thing kicking in. My mind enters that small little world before my eyes as I watch one of these model train layouts before me. Imagination is a wonderful thing for us old people. :) Thanks for showing this. I have a man who lives near me with a model train set-up that consumes his whole garage. To say he is passionate about his hobby is putting it mildly.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenYes, some males have a tremendous interest in model trains. I'm sure this would attract many visitors.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenDearest Marianne,
BeantwoordenVerwijderenOn our trip to Spain & Portugal in the 90s we had an old train and model train fanatic in our group of 19. Here in Georgia, my American 'brother' has from his childhood days a huge model train on the attic of a big Antebellum Home. Yes, I too am very much drawn to those model train layouts. And don't worry about your last sentence - not true!
Hugs,
Mariette
I don't know of any women who are into model trains, although i quite enjoy looking at them!
