Red Carpet

The "Red Carpet" is a project of the city of Amsterdam to make up a new facility to provide , after the construction of the subway tunnels for the North / South line,  the streets which now often cluttered streets are cleaned .The first part of this project concerns the Damrak , Rokin , Vijzelstraat and Vijzelgracht .
The name Red Carpet was motivated partly by having , for example by use of color over the entire length of the entire process recognizable intention red tint would be used . However, the District Centre in the autumn of 2012, after evaluation and testing with various types of surfaces, decided to make the pedestrian zone gray. An important argument was that the "anthracite" variant had to be most "stiletto-proof".
After years of setback and delays the work has started now at the Damrak, as you can see the carpet is still far away. When it is finished I will put on my stiletto's and have a try.

  2. Amazing! Construction delayed and millions of dollars lost because of . . . women's heels. Only in Amsterdam. :-)

  7. Weer een stel mooie fotos, Marianne - vooral van al die dieren in de dierentuin.

    1. Both underwater and underground, it has been a huge operation for years, which has cost millions and a city centre upside down and even houses that threatened to fall apart.

  8. It seems to be a rather weak decision to base it on the fickle styles of a specific time.
