We have exciting days in the Netherlands at the moment. Because of a Nuclear Top Conference in the Hague most of the world top leaders are coming to our country. The Netherlands has never before organized such a huge event and many highways are blocked for traffic today to get all the participants from the airport in Amsterdam to the Hague.
The most important visitor is President Obama who arrived this morning with his Air-Force one. It was live on television, so straight from our bed we watched his arrival and I made pictures. Before heading to the conference Obama paid a visit to the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam where he arrived with his own helicopter.
He landed on the square in front of the Museum in the middle of the town.
In the Museum he watched two historic documents the Act of Abjuration of 1581 and the first American-Dutch trade and friendship treaty of 1782, that mark the bilateral relationship between the Netherlands and the United States. The director of the museum Wim Pijbes on the left, explained the documents to him. The man with the chain is the Lord Mayor of Amsterdam Van der Laan and the Prime-Minister Rutte is on the right.
After that Obama got a short tour along the famous Masterpieces as the "Nightwatch" of Rembrandt.
I noticed his hair is all gray now, to be a president of the USA must be a stressful job.
Thank you for this wonderful series of photos of our President. How lucky he is to be in your country!!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenAn interesting time for Amsterdam and the Netherlands. It must be quite disruptive to the people affected by road closures. We will have the same thing soon when the G20 conference is to be held in Brisbane.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenDid you follow him around?
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI'm sure the age at which men become President is largely to blame, but it seems every American President goes into office a young man and leaves aged many years more than his term.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenNice to watch it all on television and avoid the traffic jams.
Ja het is een hele gebeurtenis voor ons kleine landje. Nu hopen dat het ook iets oplevert..
BeantwoordenVerwijderenLeuk verslag heb je er van gemaakt.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenWhen I saw that on the news here this morning I was wondering if you would mention it.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenYes, I think it is a stressful job. Not sure why anyone would want it! Great pictures....almost looks like you are there!
These are wonderful pictures from your television! Our president does have a very stressful job and I admire him very much. Thanks for sharing.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenDearest Marianne,
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThat was an expensive Dutch taxpayers day (us included!) for such a special G7 meeting in the Hague. With great fanfare the Hague has been secured; meaning that the residents of the city had house arrest...
The Rijksmuseum is of course a must do for any world leader and especially for the president of the USA with whom the Dutch have the longest, uninterrupted friendly relationship of any nation. We're proud of that!
Ah, turning gray might be Michelle's fault; who knows if you believe all the press about their relationship.
But glad it went smooth and the weather was cooperating.
Hugs,
Mariette
Nice posting. He is a busy man, and I think he is doing a very good job as a president!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI think he looks just fine with his grey hair. (I seriously don`t think it looks smart on anyone with lots of chemicals to cover grey/white hair. Just look at all the people with big WHITE lines on top of their heads.)
wowee! I love that they put the documents on pillows. Ha.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI feel badly for Obama. He's so criticized by everyone. It is a thankless job and you're trying to move mountains.
hahaha, this is funny to see. we saw those choppers coming over when we just got in the car. people were taking pics so thats why we knew it must have been something special. then we heard on the radio obama was in one of them... haha
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI think he looks very distinguished with his grey hair Marianne :)
