Bookstores disappear in a high rate everywhere, but fortunately some return again. The big bookstore Scheltema in Amsterdam reopend in another building last week and on the top floor you have this great view over the city.
Here you can smell the new books again.
The painting of a well known dutch writer "Gerrit Komrij" is waiting patiently to be hanged on the wall yet while the sculpture is looking curiously at his new housing.

Wish our Barnes & Noble would come back.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenWe still have book stores here. Their biggest competitor is Amazon.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI like the Gerrit Komrij painting.
I travel to the city frequently to buy books at Indigo Bookstore and also buy online through my Kindle. I love receiving Indigo Book gift cards for presents. There, having said that, my family will read this comment and know what to buy me. ha,ha Lovely library - there's nothing like finding a good book in Bookstore and sitting down with hot cuppa to read first chapter. Have a wonderful day. Truly nice painting and I also like the sculpture.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenSo happy to hear! I know this will be a favorite place of yours. Those smells should bring back memories!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenAnother interesting sculpture and such good news about the reopened bookstore.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenGlad that a bookstore is making a comeback. I love books, turning their pages....Here in Perth I love going to bookstores and choosing a book to read, sometimes just because it has a great cover. The view of the top floor of the bookstore is fabulous too.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI love the sculpture, Marianne. Bookstores are such a great place to spend some time.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenSuch good news, a bookstore opening and not closing! I really love the smell of books, old and new.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenDearest Marianne,
BeantwoordenVerwijderenYes, for people like you and both of us, books are unthinkable of living without! So such a newly opened store brings joyful tidings!
Hugs and happy weekend.
Mariette
You got me to thinking - when was the last time I saw a new store that sold only books open for business? I cannot. I am very fortunate to have a used paperback bookstore only a couple miles from my home. They buy back the books after you are done with them, in the form of credit towards more paperbacks.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThis looks more like a library that a books store. I guess it's a good merchandising style.
VerwijderenBeautiful view! The place looks quite light inside.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenLooks like pretty good size book store. We have a nice one in Bonners Ferry called "Bonners Book" but the local call it "Johns"
BeantwoordenVerwijderenAls ik met de vrouw op stap ben mag ik de boekenwinkel niet binnen ! Duurt te lang zegt ze dan. Ja, als ik een keer binnen stap vliegt de tijd zo voorbij.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenNice to see this one returned.
Fijn weekend Marianne.
Books and art, how fab! Yes I agree Marianne, long live bookstores everywhere so we don't forget the beautiful smell of real books!
