Last weekend we had walked in the surroundings of the little city of Muiden and ended at one of the most pretty terraces there. We sat on the waterfront close to one of the most navigated locks of this area.
With the sunny weather many Dutch had started the boating season.
The bridge over the lock that dates from 1870, had to be openend every ten minutes and it turnes completely aside.
Mostly the ships that pass are not that big as this huge three-master that hardly fitted in the lock.
It passed by so close, we had a good look at this seaworthy ship.
After that some smaller boats passed, here with dog on board.
This is always the most funny part of the show. As the lock is very narrow, the boats have to maneuver for fitting in. Many eldery couples have a boat and the man is always on the steering wheel and the woman stands in the front with the rope. She has to throw the rope to the shore side and fasten it which she not always manages to do at a time. The man then often starts shouting at her and with the terraces so close to it everybody is enjoying this performance. This lock is famous for these hilarious shows and that's why the terraces are always loaded with people here.
And for the delicious Tapas dish for two of course.
To be able to see that three-master so close would have been breathtaking.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenTerrific food, sunny terrace and quite a nautical parade.....you have found a perfect spot. Had to laugh at the man barking orders....it's the same around the world!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThe entering three-master is very impressive and beautiful !
BeantwoordenVerwijderenGreat place where to sit and enjoy the show, indeed. I hope one day you'll see a woman on the Wheel and the hubby throwing ropes ! :o)
This looks like great entertainment to enjoy while having lunch!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI had to laugh at the picture you created of the arguing couples.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenLike that three-masted boat. The entertainment factor applies here in Rv'ing where the man is backing their huge motor home or camper trailer back into a camping spot. Oh the pressure! It makes you wonder how they can continue on each day with her knowing she'll have to get out and give directions while he gets ever increasingly mad. Such is the joy in Rv'ing, at least for us spectators.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenDearest Marianne,
BeantwoordenVerwijderenKind of sarcastic to feel entertained by those couple fights in which the women play the underdog role!
But your food looks yummy and sure the passing of different boats through the water lock is quite entertaining!
Hugs,
Mariette
That meal looks delicious!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThe canal reminds me of ours here, also a 19th century one.
I've eaten these. It's one of the best meals in my life! Yes, I think I've got excited and spoken loudly to my wife when we had something that required both of us.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenMmm..dat ziet er zo lekker uit!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenWhat a fun and pretty spot to enjoy what looks like a delicious meal.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI haven't seen a grand canal like this since my last visit to Paris.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenVery beautiful and so are the boats and ships.
The story about the rope throwing is very funny.
Thanks for sharing.
Peace :)
I would almost wonder if any hit the sides sliding through the canal. I see all the people and think it would be amusing to watch n have a nice lunch. Beautiful, grande boats, those big ones, but I like the little one with the dog. Lovely arrangement of food on plate - looks yummy.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenheel leuke serie van Muiden. Groetjes en fijn weekend Dietmut
BeantwoordenVerwijderenWhat fun to see all those boats plus a little entertainment as well.
